Ms. Walta Lou Richards Butler, age 86 of Roswell, GA, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024 at her home.

A beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Walta Lou was also a dear friend and neighbor. She was the quintessential Southern lady – considerate to a fault but with just enough spunk and humor to keep it real. A crackerjack seamstress and cook, Walta also knew her way around the computer and digital platforms better than most octogenarians. She shared these talents freely and often with family and friends. As long as she was able, she enjoyed a round of golf, knitting, trivia nights and dinners out. A quiet Christian whose actions spoke louder than words, Ms. Butler was a faithful member of Roswell United Methodist Church. Prior to her retirement from state government in 1992, she served as personnel officer for the Georgia Office of Planning and Budget. Post retirement she worked several years as a consultant to the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.  Walta Lou/Mom/Mimi – in all her earthly incarnations -- worked and loved well and will be missed beyond measure by the people she leaves behind.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Sara Lou Ella O'Neal Richards; father, Walter Leon Richards; brother, Robert (Bobby) Richards.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Butler (Darlene) of Sanford, NC and Michael Butler (Bethany) of Woodstock, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie Mabry (Gary) of Marietta, GA; sisters and brother-in-law, Lillie Ellen Pendley of Dalton, GA and Betty Ann Spivey (Charles) of Eton, GA; grandchildren, Claire Frost (Sean), Ryan  Butler (Julianne), Eve Mabry, Kevin Butler (Rhiannon), Macayla Butler; and Ethan Butler; great-grandchildren, Talon Butler, Olivia Butler, Penelope (Poppy) Frost, Cole Frost, and Benjamin (Ben) Butler.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Ms. Walta Lou Richards Butler will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. from the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home (208 South 3rd Ave. Chatsworth, GA 30705) with Rev. Tom Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Chatsworth Heights Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, June 16, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour.
