Obituary

In Loving Memory of Mr. Phillip Houston Ward, Sr

October 10, 1943– April 18, 2025

Mr. Phillip Houston Ward, Sr, age 81, of Cisco, Georgia, departed this life on Friday, April 18, 2025.

Born October 10, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Fred W. Ward, Sr. and the late Dorothy Mantooth Turvey of Cisco, GA.

Phillip proudly served in the United States Navy.  He enjoyed his work as an under water welder. He was proud to have served his country.

He was a true mountain man who found joy and peace in nature—whether in the woods deer hunting or enjoying his daily rides through the beautiful Cohutta wilderness. He had a great admiration for the mountains, Big Frog, Grassy, Cowpens, The Cotton Wood Fields and two rivers, Conasauga and Jacks, which flow through the Cohuttas.

Phillip retired from The Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local #102 in Knoxville, TN. Phillip was a very talented life-long Journeyman Pipefitter.

He was a proud member of Sumach Masonic Lodge #55.

Phillip was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, son, brother and uncle. Preceded in death by his brother, Fred Ward, Jr of Oneida, TN, and sister, Gale Daugherty of Chatsworth, GA.

He is survived by his children; Devonda Trantham and husband Jeff, of Turtletown, TN, Phillip Ward, Jr and wife Kathy, of Crandall, GA, Craig Ward of Dalton, GA, Jesse Ward of Chatsworth, GA, Christal Haynes and husband Scott, of Trussville, AL and Houston Ward of Hixon, TN. He enjoyed sharing his passion for the mountains with his grandchildren, Kimberly Skinner, Diana Perot, Bennett Haynes and Addison Haynes.  His love for the outdoors is evident in his 5 great-grand children, Lillian, Madison, Ripp, Molly and Theodore. Several several nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends were blessed by "Uncle Phillip's" adventures and true love for nature.

Friends and family may visit with the Ward family in a Celebration of Life on Sunday, May 18, 2025  2:00 pm-4 pm at The Anchor Holds Baptist Church, Chatsworth, GA.  Funeral Services at 4:00 pm with Johnny Ward officiating.
