Chatsworth
Peggy Joyce Rymer Keith, age 95, of Chatsworth, Georgia, passed away on March 6, 2024.
Peggy was born in Harlan, Kentucky, the first daughter of Frederick Lee Rymer and Lucille Verlin Tipton Rymer. She attended school there and graduated from Harlan High School. She was commissioned into the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, the highest title of honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky. She was a member of the Harlan Musettes, a choral group that traveled and performed for events and organizations. She attended Furman University, The University of Georgia, and Dalton Junior College (now Dalton State College).
Peggy began her teaching career traveling to the coal fields of Kentucky to work with the children of miners. She taught at Cisco School and at most of the Murray County schools (Kindergarten to High School, wherever there was a need). In later years she taught Real Estate courses at Dalton Junior College.
She married Amos Ladd Keith, Jr. in Athens, GA while they were students at UGA. She worked tirelessly on their farm in Eton, Ga, while caring for their five children, teaching school, Sunday School, and being involved in many civic and religious clubs and organizations.
Peggy worked for the R L Smith Company of Dallas, Texas overseeing the manufacturing of carpeting for the company's manufactured housing business (from purchasing the yarn to inspecting the final product). She and her husband Amos were owners of various business ventures in Eton and Dalton. Peggy and Amos were Owner/Brokers of Century 21 Gold Crest Realty providing residential and commercial services. In later years she became a residential builder with her son, Joe.
She was a member of a church wherever she lived, ending with Chatsworth First Baptist. She was a wonderful Soprano lending her voice to choirs throughout her life. She ensured all of her children attended regularly.
She attended the Murray County Senior Center for many years and found such joy in riding the bus through the county picking up riders. She lived for several years at Orchard Ridge Residences with old friends and many new ones. She loved the fellowship, the activities and always the parties.
She was most proud of her family. She was "Mother" or "Bobo" to all, a constant supporter of their faith, education, athletics and all-around antics and endeavors.
