Mitchell J. Smith 76 of Chatsworth, Georgia entered his heavenly home Friday, October 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Mitchell was a loving husband, father, and friend. He was a character if you knew him you may have a story to tell.

Mitchell enjoyed golfing and fishing, but his happy place was in a pasture on his tractor tending to the cows and horses.

Mitchell held many positions over his lifetime, including Dixon Music Company, Past President of the Murray County Saddle Club, Chatsworth-Murray County Housing Authority Board. Before his retirement he served 37 years with various law enforcement agencies including the Murray and Gilmer County Sheriff's departments, Former Murray County Magistrate Judge, and the City of Chatsworth Police Department and City Marshal.

He was preceded in death by his parents Granvil and Macile Smith, sister and brother-in-law Sandra and Buell Gilbert, brother Phillip Smith, brothers in law Ricky Langford and Charles "Soppy" Cresap.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Alma Smith, sons, Eric Smith of Knoxville, Tennessee, Nick Smith (Kim Garrett) and Matthew Smith (Natasha Collins) of Chatsworth, Georgia. Brother, Warren Smith of Dalton, Georgia, sister-in-law Sandi Smith of Dalton, Georgia. Sisters in law Dennie Langford and Lora Wright-Cresap of Chatsworth, Georgia, Lavada Langford (Ralph Grunz) of Kennesaw, Georgia and sister and brother-in-law Sarah and Steve McFarland of Acworth, Georgia. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Although Mitchell never had grandchildren of his own there were many boys and girls he loved and treated as his own.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Peeples Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 2:00 PM with the Reverand Joe Hayes officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home prior to the service on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 11:00 -2:00.
