Obituary

Mrs. Melissa Carol Saylors Scott, age 61 of Chatsworth, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

Melissa was a lifelong resident of Chatsworth, Georgia. At the young age of 13, she met (and later married) the only boy she ever dated. She took extra classes so she could graduate high school a year early; she graduated one night and married the love of her life the next. After raising her children, Melissa entered an apprenticeship, where she worked to obtain her master barber license.  She later became the owner of the "Parlor Room," where she spent many hours with her clients doing what she loved. While working in the field she had loved even as a child (often having friends come to her house after school so she could cut their hair), she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  Her sickness didn't stop her, and she fought hard to reach remission.  Within a year, she would relapse and begin treatments once again.  Melissa often shared her testimony of "touching the hem of Christs' garment," when she received healing from the terrible disease that took so much from her. She truly received healing, because it had been over 25 years before she was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

She enjoyed many things including cooking for her family (which she claimed the secret ingredient was always love), spending hours painting watercolor pictures and cards, watching her grands play various sports and other activities, shopping for antiques and going on impromptu "junkin' trips" to find old treasures, spending time with her family, and being in church services with her church family praising the Lord.  She achieved many things in her short lifetime, but being "Mimi" was by far her greatest achievement.  Every year her granddaughters looked forward to "cousin camp," where they would spend the week with her doing whatever their little hearts desired. It was a week that she looked forward to every year, and the memories she was blessed to make with her "treasures" gave her more joy than she could have ever imagined.  Melissa was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, but she attended Mt. Hermon Baptist Church where her husband pastors.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Joyce Saylors; maternal grandparents, Bartow and Ollie Davenport; paternal grandparents, Gordon and Effie Saylors.

Survivors include her husband, Dwight Scott of Chatsworth; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Scott Dotson and Tim Dotson of Chatsworth; son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Megan Scott of Chatsworth; grandchildren, Finley Dotson, Machaela, Isabella, and Baby June Scott; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ricky (Tater) and Debbie Saylors of Chatsworth and Wayne and Kimberly Saylors of Dalton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mark and Vicky Pickett of Calhoun, and Jeff and Sharon Bowen of Chatsworth. Nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.

The family will receive friends at Peeples Funeral Home on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Mrs. Scott will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home. Rev. Johnny Beason, Rev. Clint Summerville, Rev. The family kindly requests that no food be brought to the funeral home.
