Linda Mcconkey
Turvey
Sep 4, 1937 — Nov 2, 2021
Growing up in Etowah, TN, "Nanna," as she was known to many, lived an adventurous life. She was North GA Women's Barrel Racing Champion and a semi-professional softball player, whose photo as a player for the Lorelei Ladies was inducted into the Library of Congress' "Baseball Americana" in 2018 and featured in the book "Baseball Americana: Treasures from the Library of Congress." She was a high diver, and a high school basketball legend at Etowah High School in Etowah, TN where they retired her jersey. She was a charismatic grandmother who fiercely loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The mother of one, her daughter Tanise was the light of her life and second only to her passion for "her" Jesus, as she called Him. She attended the University of Tennessee and practiced as a surgical nurse at Murray Memorial Hospital. Her later years were filled with caring for her mother, the late Stella McConkey, and spoiling her family with her joyous presence, laughter, hilarious antics and stories, and love.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William Harve and Lillian Long of Chatsworth, GA, parents Charles William McConkey of Etowah, TN, and Estelle "Stella" Beatrice Long McConkey of Chatsworth, GA, and her brother, Charles Victor "Vic" McConkey of Chatsworth, GA.
Linda is survived by her devoted daughter and best friend, Linda Tanise Turvey Pritchett and son-in-law, Charles H. "Moe" Pritchett, Jr. of Dalton, GA, grandchildren Brandi Pritchett Griffin and Jordan of Nashville, TN and Charles H. "Chase" Pritchett, III and Misty of Hixon, TN; great grandchildren, Lillian "Lilli" and Samuel Griffin; beloved sister-in-law, Vivian Keith McConkey; nieces and nephew Chrissie McConkey Booth, Shawn McConkey Berry, Denise McGill, Angie Woodcock and Steven, and Benji McConkey and Brittney; great nieces and nephews Haley Darling, Morgan Sumrall, Beau Booth, Maison McGill, Jake Woodcock, Kaplan Woodcock, Hinton McConkey, Ladd McConkey, Laine McConkey; great nieces and nephew Emmerson and Sutton Darling, and Turner Sumrall, as well as numerous other loving family members.
A celebration of life will be held for family and close friends on Saturday at 11:00am at the Pritchett home in Dalton, GA, with Pastor Jeremy Colloms officiating. Arrangements are made by Peeples Funeral Home in Chatsworth, GA. For address and further information, please contact the family at lindamcconkeyinfo@gmail.com .
