Obituary

Mrs. Brenda Joy Callahan-Quinton, 68, of Dalton, GA, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on Friday, March 22, 2024. She was surrounded by her loving family as she entered Heaven.  She was born on September 12, 1955, in Chattanooga, Tn and was raised in West Palm Beach, Fl. Her parents named her Brenda Joy and loved to tell the story of a poem written by her Granny prior to her birth, "if it's not a bouncing baby boy, we will call her Brenda Joy."  Her name fit her well as her smile radiated joy and her love for her family.

Brenda was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of almost 22 years, Donald Quinton.  They enjoyed "getting lost" together and camping in the mountains. She cherished her three children, Loomis, Shain, and Jennifer.  She was a great mom who made many sacrifices to ensure her children had every opportunity this world had to offer.  She was the neighborhood mom and was loved by many of her children's friends.  Brenda was "Granny" to her 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She could often be found shopping for a good deal or forcing her children and grandchildren to listen to her "oldies" while on long road trips or cleaning the house. Everyone credits their extensive knowledge of music to her. She also loved to dance and Elvis was always her favorite. We cannot help but smile when we think of her dancing in heaven. She loved to play card games and board games with her family.  She cherished game nights that would last until the wee hours of the morning. She was a gifted seamstress and made school clothes, Halloween costumes, and all sorts of things for her family.  She found great joy in crocheting baby blankets each time her family grew.  Brenda was incredibly generous and would give to those in need even though she herself was a single mom.  She loved animals and had a special bond with her chihuahua, Star.  She was known to foster many animals from the Murray County animal shelter over the years as well. If you had spoken to her in the past few years, you heard her miracle story. She had a massive heart attack in 2018 and went 9 minutes without oxygen.  The doctors told us she would never speak, feed herself, or leave a nursing facility.  But God had other plans and performed a miracle in her. We were given 5 more precious years with her.

Brenda is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Ernest Callahan Sr. and Mrs. Bobbie Queen, her stepfather, William Queen, her sister, Mary Callahan, her brother Hugh Don Callahan, and her great-grandson, Draven Smith. She is survived by her husband, Donald Quinton; son, Loomis Smith (Angie); daughters, Shain Smith (James McCullum), Jennifer Shupe (Gabe); Stepsons, Mathew Flood (Walker), Hunter Flood(Mariah), and Timmy Flood; Stepdaughter, Ashley Flood; Grandsons, Adam Smith (Kira), Christopher Williams, Brendon Williams (Taylor), Kaylub Kuhn (Katie), Anthony Pendley and Kohl Shupe; Granddaughters, Autumn Smith (Daniel), Kayla Edwards (Dande), Jasmine Whaley (Ashton), Abby Smith (Harley), Ava Pendley, Rosemary Flood, Emma Flood and Rylee Shupe; Great-Grandsons, Jacob Edwards, Ryder Cozart, Leo Gilbert, Max Kuhn; Great-Granddaughter, Sophia Edwards; Brothers, Ernie Callahan Jr. and Michael Callahan (Laura Maggi); Sisters, Debra Mantooth (Ben), Cathleen Callahan, and Tana Callahan (Jim); Aunt, Sarah Stemen; Uncle, Jimmie Renfro (Samantha) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
